A question the artists at Debut often get asked is, 'will it hurt?' and honestly, most often our answer is - it depends on the person. Like many things, pain is subjective; what hurts one person may not hurt another. There is a common misconception that bonier parts of the body are the most painful but again, this is entirely subjective. We tend to find that the most painful places on the body are the soft spots nearest main arteries. To make it easier and less intimidating for those interested in getting a tattoo, we’ve put together a list of some of the most painful tattoo placements from our experience of tattooing (and being tattooed). In no particular order:
Palms of the hands/Soles of feet
Back of the knee/Back of leg
Neck/Collarbone
Stomach/Ribs
Hands/Fingers
While these are some of the most common pain points it’s important to remember this will differ for everyone; and can be affected by length of sessions, general health and artist technique are also factors to consider.
